How to request your Office 365 tenant data to be migrated to the South African Data Centers

With the launch of the Office 365 services in South Africa, customers in this region can now request that their Office 365 core data at rest be moved to the data centre in South Africa.

All new organizations with a South African address will automatically have their tenants created in the South African data centres.

How to request a Move

To request a move of your Tenant Data, you can login to the Office 365 Admin Portal” https://portal.office.com

Then navigate to Settings >> organization profile

From the organization profile, you will be able to view where your data is current residing. To view where your data is currently located click on Data location.

For most people in South Africa, this will show as Europe.

To request a data move, scroll down to Data residency, here you will have an option to Opt-in to have your data moved to South Africa.

Microsoft is offering the Data move for customers at no additional cost if they opt-in to the early move before Feb 1, 2020.

To opt-in for the move, click on Opt-in

Move to toggle to YES “I want my organization’s core customer data at rest to migrate to South Africa by Feb 1, 2020.”

Then click on Save at the bottom of the page.

As your data migration completes, you will receive notifications in the Message Centre as each service migration completes.
